A man from Wilcox County died after his car struck a culvert and tumbled on New Year’s Eve, state troopers said.

Trasey L. Johnson, 54, of Pine Apple, died on the scene of the crash, said Sgt. Jeremy J. Burkett, a trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, in a press release. The single-vehicle crash happened about 10:05 p.m. Sunday on Alabama 21 about 10 miles east of Camden, in Wilcox County.

Johnson was driving a 2022 Lexus GX460 that left the roadway and hit a culvert.

“Johnson was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Burkett said in the release.

The crash remains under investigation.
